HISTORY & MISSION
The Chorus, originally conceived in 2002 as a project of the Sierra Mountainaires Men’s Chorus, was designed to engage adults and students in the performance of a broad spectrum of fine choral music. Chris Nelson (MM from U. of Utah) spearheaded the founding of the organization which reflected the talent and desire of the Truckee/Tahoe community. He immediately enlisted the support of the Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation and Sierra College, Truckee Campus. The College, currently headed by Kimberly Bateman, Dean, continues to support the Chorus, which is offered as an Osher Life-Long Learning course.
The mission of the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus is to perform a wide range of quality choral works that will appeal to the diverse community members of the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe region. TTCC is dedicated to building, nurturing and promoting a strong choral musical arts program in the schools and within the community.
The chorus is made up of some fifty members from the Truckee and North Lake Tahoe areas. The organization is truly a community chorus with members representing a cross-section of highly gifted students, and town’s people of various occupations and professions. The unifying ingredient of the group is a love and respect for fine choral music and a willingness to experience a wide range of musical styles.
